Church donates
07 Aug 2016
Revealed Word Ministries in Mochudi has donated a two bedroomed house to Sekgopi family at Ntshinoge ward that cost P70 000 to build.
When officially handing over the house to the family on Saturday, representative of the Presidential Housing Appeal, Kgatleng District Council secretary, Mr Nelson Mogapi said the initiative to give dignity to Batswana was launched by President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama in 2010.
He said when President Khama took over the presidency, he came up with his road map which included the 5 D’s among them being Dignity.
Mr Mogapi said therefore he made a plea to Batswana, companies and individuals to help shelter the poor and needy families to give them dignity.
He further said “since its launch and the first house being built in Molepolole, 625 houses has been given including the one being given today and 32 other houses are being built and will soon be completed”.
The council secretary commended the church for coming forth to answer the call by the President to help the Sekgopi family.
Mr Mogapi encouraged those who have not lent a helping hand towards the Housing Appeal to come forth and give anything they can afford whether its P5 or P5 000 towards helping other Batswana like them.
He said the church has blessed the family and therefore the family has the responsibility to care for the house and treasure it.
When giving an overview of the project, Deacon Theophilus Guga of the Revealed Word Ministries said the project started back in 2011 as a project run by men in the church.
He said due to their few numbers in the church it took some time for them to be able to complete it and were assisted by the women who were concerned that it has taken longer than expected to finish it.
Deacon Guga further said Ms Sekgopi is their member in the church and seeing her need, they were compelled as the church to act accordingly as per the Word of God and moreover as the answer to the call by President Khama to help those in need.
He said the family lived in a one roomed house and the situation did not look good at all and they decided to add more rooms to accommodate all of them.
Mr Guga added that they are happy as the church to have completed the house at last and to put a smile on another person’s face.
He said as the church, they do not just preach the Word of God, but also have to impact positively the communities which they live in and work with.
Deacon Guga said they have used P70 000 to build the two roomed house which include a large sitting room, kitchen, bathroom and two bedrooms.
The beneficiary, Ms Malepshwane Sekgopi run short of words to express her gratitude towards the help accorded to her by the church.
She said she was grateful for the house which now stands before her, adding that they used to stay in one room which had no roof and she decided to stay with her mother as they could not all sleep in the room.
Ms Sekgopi said her family will now enjoy the cocoon of the house and can all now sleep peacefully in a big house thanks to the love of God.
The area councillor, Mr Thabo Komane said he was thankful for the love the church have shown towards one of their own in that they have taken it upon themselves to be good Samaritans.
He said only love can lead someone to undertaken such an initiative to build a house for the family that needed shelter. ENDS
