Wayward behavior concerns youth
07 Aug 2016
Rising acts of indiscipline among the youth, especially house breaking and substance abuse is a concern to fellow young people in Kanye.
So concerned are youth from Kanye that they have formed a group to try and stem waywardness.
Mr Kabo Mooketsi, who forms the quartet of the concerned youth, says that they have come to the realisation that most out of school youth are involved in such vices; an occurrence he notes is quickly finding its way into schools.
“I have observed that some out of school youth who indulge in acts of indiscipline tend to mislead unsuspecting students to engage in the same,” he declares.
Mr Mooketsi says therefore it is upon this background that he has together with his group shouldered the responsibility to organise an out of school youth workshop whose primary objective is to impress upon the youth the dangers of engaging in abhorrent acts.
“I believe the workshop will be an eye-opener to many of our young people especially out of school youth who are our primary target,” he says.
Mr Mooketsi remains hopeful he will get the blessings of government departments and parastatals among them; Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture, Citizen Economic Development Agency Local Enterprise Authority to come on board and shed more light on the services they provide.
He says Botswana police will also be invited to make people aware of the dangers of being caught on the wrong side of the law and the underlying implications thereof.
Mr Mooketsi who assist young people register companies and package business plans is thus confident the initiative will go a long way at taking young people off the streets and subsequently reduce crime ‘because not only will they be enlightened on government’s empowerment programmes at their disposal, but will hopefully take advantage of them’.
