Delay worry councillor

31 Jul 2016

The councillor for Gabane Mmankngodi, Mr Ofentse Mafoko has raised concern regarding the delay by the Kweneng Land Board to compensate Mmankgodi residents since re-possessing their ploughing fields around 2004.

Speaking during the ongoing Kweneng District Council meeting on Tuesday, Mr Mafoko said the land board has also not allocated people residential plots yet as per the procedure.

The councillor for Ledumadumane West, Mr Mothusi Kgomotso also said in his constituency, residents have not been given certificates for the plots they were allocated after re-possession.

Mr Kgomotso said this was a concern since it was hampering residents to develop their plots without the certificates. He also noted that some people were still dumping litter in their community despite the existing landfill.

Furthermore, several councillors also proposed that the BOT50 celebration preparations budget should be allocated among their village wards and not constituencies since people tend to leave towns and converge on their villages during celebrations.

Meanwhile, the councillor for Mahetlwe, Mr Simon Maroane asked if the Molepolole dual-lane would bring solutions or more traffic congestion problems, suggesting that prior to its construction, the council could have first considered constructing internal roads which were feeders to the main road.

However, Mr Maroane commended the introduction of the Economic Stimulus Programme, saying he was glad the road in his constituency would be tarred, whereas the councillor for Gabane-Mmankgodi,   Mr Ofentse Mafoko also appreciated that the Gabane-Tloaneng road was included among ESP projects which he said was at consultation stage.

Moreover, councillors also suggested that the cleanup campaigns towards BOT50 be intensified, suggesting that waste tanks must be mounted, waste heaps be grated-off as well as the provision of Ipelegeng staff with litter pickers.

There was also a suggestion that action be taken regarding abandoned households. ENDS
