Martins Drift toilets in satisfactory condition

The Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Mr Kenneth Matambo says public toilets at Martins Drift Border Post experience frequent blockages whilst the air conditioners have passed their useful lives.
“The public toilets are serviceable and do not require any repairs, however, experience has shown that some of the travellers who use toilets use unsuitable materials which block the drainage system thus causing the toilets to malfunction.
Whenever the situation arises, BURS engages handymen to unblock the situation,” he said.
The Member of Parliament for Mahalapye West, Mr Joseph Molefe had wanted to know if the minister was aware that public toilets and air conditioners at Botswana Unified Revenue Service (BURS) Martins Drift office have not been maintained for the past four years.
Minister Matambo said public toilets were currently operating satisfactorily and did not need any repairs, and emphasised that the toilets were attended to whenever there were faults reported.
He said the border post was connected to the Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) water supply, adding that a 180 cubic metre water storage tank has been erected at the border post to ensure that there was continuous water supply.
With regard to the air conditioning system, Mr Matambo said BURS has decided to replace the air-conditioning system as part of a comprehensive maintenance of the border post which was scheduled to commence during the current financial year.
“A tender inviting companies to bid for this work has already been floated and will close on the August 12 this year,” said Mr Matambo. ENDS
