Moratiso concoction of musical tunes
27 Jul 2016
One of the local outstanding jazz musicians, Lister Boleseng says his latest album Moratiso is not about a traditional love charm to attract the opposite sex.
Instead, he said it was a concoction of musical tunes to appeal to the ladies and make them rest assured that someone cares about their emotional feelings. The talented saxophonist said the idea of Moratiso came about during his wife’s birthday.
All he had to do was to make her breakfast in bed as he was too broke to take her out to celebrate the day.
“I then started working on the album and the rest is history as I am going to be launching the album at Maitisong Hall in Maruapula on July 29 with Gape Motswaledi and Kago Regoeng with their classical and oldies music,” said Boleseng.
He said he had to work hard to surpass his award winning debut album, Life’s Journey of 2007 which won three awards, song of the year with O tlhokana le nna, best packaged album and the music video of the year.
Lister noted that he knew he had produced a gem for jazz lovers adding that he knew that it would be tough as his followers would want even more.
During a recent sampling of the album, he had the audience eating out of the palm of his hand when he played tunes like Are bineng which he dedicated to the late Eric Juba who passed on in 2006 after a short illness.
The Zimbabwe-born, Juba played alongside Boleseng at Abraxas Combo where they used to share the stage with the late Tsilo Baitsile of Mahalapye on the vocals for some of the songs.
The Moratiso album has a number of exciting songs such as Sebouledi which talks about a jealous lover who does not allow his girlfriend to talk any man even if he could be a relative.
There is also Mma Mamati which is a traditional song that he polished into a marvelous jazzy tune that can get any music lover tapping their feet to the tune.
He said when he played for Badiri Band alongside Clement Jackson and Masilonyana Radinoga, the latter would come to the BDF camp and hide him in a car boot so that they could go and perform at music shows in Lobatse..
He has rubbed shoulders with some international artists such as Ste Dyer, Sebongile Khumalo, Oliver Mtukudzi and Tshepo Tshola.
The likes of John Selolwane who is one of the best lead guitarists in the country and Sello Montwedi of Sankomota fame worked closely with him and they were featured in his 2007 album. Ends
