Four classrooms for Fredrick Maherero
27 Jul 2016
Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso, says her ministry plans to replace four asbestos classrooms that were demolished at Fredrick Maherero Primary School in Mahalapye West constituency.
Responding to a question in Parliament from MP for Mmadinare, Mr Kefentse Mzwinila, Ms Tshireletso said classrooms were removed for health reasons and their replacement would be considered amongst other competing projects during the ongoing Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP).
Ms Tshireletso said the Central District Council will do an assessment of the primary school to establish the state and quantity of furniture that needs replacement adding that “this will be done before the end of August 2016 and any savings that are found will be directed to procure replacement classroom furniture at the school.”
She explained that there are no plans to construct a computer laboratory at Fredrick Maherero as the priority is to address the shortfall in teacher’s quarters and classrooms in the foreseeable future and that these facilities will be considered in the next 2 years of ESP.
Mr Mzwinila had asked the minister if she was aware that Fredrick Maherero Primary School had four asbestos classrooms demolished in the past two years and have not yet been replaced.
Mr Mzwinila also wanted to know when the classrooms and furniture will be replaced and when the computer laboratory, teacher’s quarters and additional classrooms will be constructed at that school. Ends
