Installations not satisfactorily done

25 Jul 2016

Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Frans van der Westhuizen has acknowledged that maintenance work and electrical installations at Mosu Primary School have not been done satisfactorily.

“I can confirm that the staff rooms and kitchen have been supplied with electricity. However, there are still some of the classrooms which were wired prior but do not have power connected to them,” Mr van der Westhuizen told Parliament.

He said the remaining work includes installation of ceilings, installation of light fittings, attendance to vandalised BPC distribution boxes and repairing outside lights.

He said a contractor was awarded a contract for electrical work in August 2014 and that he completed it on July 2015 while council crews were undertaking maintenance on the same buildings at the same time.

He said the contractor was consequently delayed by the outstanding work that still had to be done by council crew, and that he was ultimately unable to finish off some of the works in his contract. He said the contactor has, however, been paid in full for the work done.

Boteti East MP, Mr Setlhomo Lelatisitswe had asked the assistant minister to brief Parliament about the status of electricity at Mosu Primary School, and whether the assistant minister was convinced that the contractor has done a good job.  Ends
