Departments under the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture (MYSC) in the North West District have obtained position one in performance for the financial year 2015/16.

The district obtained position one out of 12 districts and received a trophy and certificate.

Speaking during a dinner to celebrate the achievements, the permanent secretary in the ministry, Mr Kago Ramokate praised employees for a job well, adding that the ministry values performance and takes it seriously.

He said it was important for employees to perform to the required standard and to satisfy the needs of customers.

He explained that every year, they look at districts which were doing well and recognise teams which were making efforts to provide excellent service delivery to the public. He noted that they have set 13 categories in which districts were assessed on, and that the North West District scored above 80 per cent in all categories.

“We have a culture of recognising different teams in the ministry and in the district by rewarding them. It is our believe that service delivery and performance are a result of teamwork,” he added.

Mr Ramokate acknowledged the challenges faced by the Ngamiland region and hailed the employees for defying the odds.

He explained that the ministry was aware of the working environment the employees operate in and encouraged them not to despair and continue working as a team to meet the aspirations of their customers.

The permanent secretary noted that as they celebrate their performance, it was important for everyone to play their role to improve in the current year and maintain their standard.

He said they should understand that their position was under threat as other districts were capitalising on their mistakes to ensure they scoop it.Mr Ramokate said their customers, who were mostly young people, artists, sport persons, demanded high performance hence the need to place them first and ensure “we do everything in our power to ensure they get satisfying assistance.”

He pointed out that in the past the ministry was marred with issues of misconduct and bad attitudes towards customers, and urged the employees to treat and service their customers with the respect they deserve.

He said it was important to ensure their conduct was exemplary at all levels, adding that some of their customers were on social media which means the manner in which the employees service them could easily reach the public domain. An official from the district commissioner’s office, Mr Joe Galebagae urged employees to double their efforts in order to maintain their good standard in future.

He said they should start to build for the next financial year as other districts were eyeing their position and working on their failures.

For his part, Ngamiland youth coordinator, Mr Olefhile Thipe thanked the ministry’s management for acknowledging the good performance made by the district, adding that their support would motivate the employees to work harder and serve the public diligently. Ends
