The Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources has donated a two-roomed house to Mr Jonas Vlermus of Makopong valued at P50 000.
Speaking during the handing over ceremony, senior manager in the ministry, Mr Moremi Phiri said as employees of MMEWR they found it fitting to heed the plea by President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama to help the less fortunate in society.
He pointed out that the donation was made possible by the concerted efforts of all employees in the ministry.
Mr Phiri said they built the house as a way of showing that they care about the less fortunate in society.
The house, which is equipped with a solar system for lights, also came with grocery, cutlery and a couch, which substitutes the one-roomed mud house which the family has been living in for ages.
Earlier on when welcoming guests to his village, Kgosi Vincent Phologo said it was pleasing to see that public servants have heeded the call to help the less privileged, and congratulated them for the good gesture of showing love and compassion.
Kgosi Phologo urged the recipients to take care of the house so that it could last them for decades to come.
The council chairperson, Mr Justice Nkwane also noted that ever since the appeal to help the less fortunate was made, Batswana have come to the party as different people in different places were receiving help from different quarters of society.
Mr Vlermus said he was happy to receive the donation and thanked all those who took part in building the house. ENDS.
