Phuduhudu AI available next year
24 Jul 2016
The Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Mr Kgotla Autlwetse, has told parliament that Kang catchment area has not been using the cattle insemination camp (AI) at Phuduhudu for over two years.
The assistant minister said catchment in the Kgalagadi North constituency had not been used because it was occupied by camels. He explained that the use of the camp was restricted by the presence of camels which disturbed the cattle breeding programme.
However, Mr Autlwetse said his ministry was planning to have the camp available for use by cattle farmers at the next breeding season in October 2017. He said this was to enable the removal of camels by the Ministry of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism during the course of this year.
Mr Autlwetse was responding to a question by Kgalagadi North MP, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi who had asked the minister if he was aware that farmers in the Kang catchment area had not been using the cattle insemination camp at the Phuduhudu. He also asked the minister to state when will the camp return to its original status. Ends
