24 Jul 2016

In its continued efforts and monthly commitment to helping the community, the Office of the President (OP) gave a facelift to the Block 9 Park in Gaborone on July 22.

The OP Community Service Day activities were led by President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama.

Activities of the day included refurbishment of children’s play equipment, pruning and cutting trees, cleaning, tree planting, clearing of grounds and litter picking.

Speaking at the event, Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Dikgang Makgalemele said every month, the President and Cabinet had been reaching out to various communities and making a difference in a small way through giving back to various causes.

He said community service was a way of demonstrating values of a caring nation and support for corporate social responsibility.

“It is my hope that this facelift of the park will get more children playing and engaging in fun exercises, necessary for their social, emotional, cognitive and physical growth from an early stage,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr Makgalemele commended the President and Cabinet for taking time from busy schedules to honour the event, adding that their presence provided further encouragement to the nation to set aside time for communities and to give back to worthy causes.
He also applauded Gaborone City Council staff for their continued support and going the extra mile to ensure that equipment to be used was available. Ends
