Socca releases Destiny
21 Jul 2016
Legendry trumpet player, Soccer Moruakgomo of What is happening, fame has released his latest 12 track album simply entitled Destiny.
The album sleeve shows the Mahalapye-born musician who once played for the Botswana Defence Force band in a jovial mood to show that the album is a celebration of his musical journey. The sleeve also pays tribute to one of his late karate instructors, 10th Dan Black Belt Sensei Kimura who showed him that music and martial arts are closely intertwined.
He also applauds Hugh Masekela for having played a pivotal role in his musical journey by encouraging him to continue playing the trumpet and learning as life is nothing but a learning curve.
The album kicks of with a melodic instrumental tune called Facts of Life, a tune which speaks for itself because the facts of life cannot be changed.
The other track which clearly puts his trumpet playing skills into the open is It is freezing in the UK and it speaks about an African who lives in the United Kingdom, but feels that it is too cold and wishes to come back to the warm African weather. Taken further, the song seems to be inviting people from the cold European weather to come to Africa to enjoy the warm climate and get sun tanned and in the process publicise the national tourism industry.
He says the title track, Destiny shows that he is in a journey and that there is a lot more in store for Batswana that he is going to explore and give out to music lovers of all genres especially those who have Afro Jazz music close to their hearts.
Socca says Caribbean Feel is tailored for the outside market as the musical beat has a salsa like beat that would appeal to those from the Caribbean Islands and beyond, making the album a conglomeration of musical tunes to show that music is borderless and as such has the potential to unite the world.
The album depicts Socca at his best and shows maturity in his musical journey. Songs that he played in his previous albums such as What is Happening have been revamped and updated to give music lovers an update of what is happening around the world at the moment.
He says he has the future of Botswana close to his heart and that is why he came up with the song, Your Right, which talks about the right for every Motswana to vote for a party of their choice and that political leaders should work together for the common goal of uniting the nation. ENDS
