Skills transfer benefit young people

20 Jul 2016

The Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture has continued to touch lives of many youths in the Southern District through its programmes.

Speaking in an interview after the ministry’s consultative workshop with Tirelo Setshaba participants and interns in Kanye recently, the ministry’s Southern District coordinator, Mr Phinias Kgari, said some of their products had experienced a breakthrough after completion of their programmes thanks to the skills transfer.

He said imparting skills to the youth through such programmes gave them a platform to acquire requisite skills needed in the job market.

He said they kept track of Tirelo Setshaba and internship graduates some of whom got permanent employment after completion of service.

Mr Kgari said some became entrepreneurs because of skills acquired during their stay at different departments and organisations.

He said internship enrollment was good since most of the youth who were on the waiting list were now working.

He expressed gratitude that programmes assimilated a lot of people living with disabilities (PLWDs) noting that programmes must embrace diversity and pluralism.

He said despite some hiccups, programmes were doing well to better the lives of the youth.

For her part, Department of National Service and Internship’s assistant programme officer, Ms Mmapula Phetogo said the workshop was meant to enhance a harmonious working relationship between the ministry and stakeholders.

She said the workshop was very helpful and fruitful as it gave programme supervisors and participants a platform for interaction and introspect on how best to improve and offer service to the clientele.

She expressed appreciation that their programmes are able to change the lives of many to the better. ENDS
