Respect work environment - Moepeng

19 Jul 2016

Secretary for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration (MOPAPA) has urged employees in the ministry to maintain professionalism at all times.

Addressing MOPAPA employees that fall within the A-C band, Ms Kebonye Moepeng, said employees had to respect the work environment.

“Stop eating in front of your customers and also stop soliciting bribes from the customers you are supposed to be serving,” she said.

Ms Moepeng further urged employees to wear name tags without hesitation and question.

“These are some of the things that we get judged on as a ministry and please let us do the right thing,” she pleaded, adding that she had been given a report of how many people had taken up the instruction and she also knew those that were still hesitant on the instruction.

She said she was happy to have a chance to interact with workers and share with them the progress made regarding the ministry and some issues affecting them.

Speaking on the ministry’s performance review, Ms Moepeng said the report for the quarter ending in June was unsatisfactory.

“I could not give the minister the statistics of those that did not sign and we all know how important Performance Development Plans (PDP) are to us individually and as a ministry,” she said.

“A PDP is a guide that shows whether as a worker you are on track with what you set out to do, to see if progress is being made or a person is stagnant,” she said.

She noted that August 8 had been set as the date all departments under MOPAPA would submit their performance reviews.

Ms Moepeng further explained that workers who did not sign PDPs were silently communicating that they did not have any work to do, hence they might be let go.

She said she expected every worker within the ministry to know the ministry’s annual performance, so as to align their individual performance plan to what the ministry has set out to do.

Ms Moepeng said it was worrying that the ministry was judged to have attained a 58 per cent in matters regarding anti-corruption.

“Please avail the anti-corruption policy to every worker within this ministry. We also have been judged to have done badly in retirement of imprest, response to correspondence and filling system,” she said, adding that email was not an official government correspondence; every email has to be filed properly.

She added that imprest should be deducted from salaries if people were failing to follow set out procedures and retired on time.

Ms Moepeng indicated that she had an open door policy to all workers under her.

“Do not hesitate to share with me your challenges and achievements. I am available to hear out grievances,” she concluded. ENDS
