VP hands over a house

The Vice President, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi, handed over a house to a resident of Malaka yesterday.

Bayport Financial Services built the P120 000 house for Ms Thompha Dintletse, the sole care giver for 19 children.

Mr Masisi expressed hope that the house would restore dignity to the Dintletse family.

He said this noble gesture will develop and fortify the family’s dignity, give them a source of security as well instil a sense of belonging in the community.

He said these were intangible traits that most people took for granted, yet they nurtured botho, which epitomised the nation and instilled pride in being Batswana.

Mr Masisi further commended the Presidential Housing Appeal, an initative that was started by President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama with the aim to provide dignity to citizens.

He said President Khama recently handed over the 600th house to a beneficiary in Sojwe, thus marking the assistance to an estimated population of 5 000 Batswana.

He thanked Batswana for their generosity in heeding the national call for assistance, making a united and proud nation.

He urged Ms Dintletse to take care of the house and encouraged her to raise her children under Christian values so that they would not engage in activities that could derail them from having a bright future.

He also urged the Social and Community Development Officer and the community to give support to this family.

Vice President Masisi further commended Bayport for building houses in support of the Presidential Housing Appeal.

Bayport so far built four houses that were handed over in Tlokweng, Palapye, Moshupa and Malaka.

He said Bayport’s commitment to community development was unparalleled.

In addition the Vice President raised P3 500 after requesting all who attended to contribute the little that they had.

For his part, the area MP, Mr Prince Maele, thanked the Vice President for gracing this event saying it showed his love and support for the people in his constituency.

He also thanked Bayport Financial Services for heeding the President’s call by supporting the Presidential Housing Appeal y.

Bayport executive chairman Mr Father Maphongo said the President called on the nation to help under priviledged members of the community with shelter hence he heeded his call.

He said Bayport would soon finish another house in Gaborone, which will be handed over to an underprivileged member of the community.

Mr Maphongo said Bayport took the initiative to build the house in Malaka after hearing about the situation from Ms Pinny Morupisi.ENDS
