Ministry develops infrastructure

14 Jul 2016

The Ministry of Transport and Communications has developed a postal infrastructural development programme to upgrade, refurbish, remodel and develop new post offices in all major villages, towns and cities.

Answering a question in Parliament, Minister of Transport and Communications Mr Tshenolo Mabeo said the program has been submitted for consideration under the National Development Plan (NDP) 11, however, the stumbling block in the implementation of this programme is lack of funding.

He indicated that his ministry is aware of the state of Ramotswa Post Office which is old and small.

“This status is not unique to Ramotswa but applies to all other post offices across the country,” he said.

Regarding the Ramotswa Post Office, Mr Mabeo said there are rest rooms even though they are not adequate to cater for all customers.

“One of the objectives of implementing the program is to improve the existing post offices infrastructure by putting in place adequate public ablution facilities,” said Mr Mabeo.

He further noted that there are no shades at Ramotswa Post Office and the envisaged infrastructural postal development would increase the size of the post offices and create enough banking hall and also increase the number of serving points in order to reduce the waiting or queuing times so that customers do not queue outside.

Mr Mabeo said his ministry’s current priority is to refurbish the existing post office with all the required facilities; therefore there are no plans to construct a new post office in Ramotswa.

Member of Parliament for Ramotswa Mr Samuel Rantuana had asked the minister if he is aware that the post office in Ramotswa is old and too small to provide day services.

He also asked the minister if he is aware that there are no rest rooms to be used by the public especially old age pensioners. ENDS
