North West gears up for jubilee celebration

12 Jul 2016

The North West District will host a series of events as a build up to the Botswana 50 years jubilee.

Speaking at a press conference recently, Maun Administration Authority, deputy commissioner Ms Angelina Leano said planned events included cultural day, music festival in all district headquarters, battle of the Djs, sports festival, 50 days count down, fireworks and horse race.

She explained that it was agreed that all villages be branded with Botswana colours and that the council would assist with resources in that regard.

“Officers will assist the villages through the community service day arrangement; the departments under State President would assist Mababe and Somelo,” she said.

However, Ms Leano said some of their plans may be hindered by budget constraints calling on board other stakeholders and private entities to assist.

She encouraged all the 20 villages under the Maun Administration Authority to prepare well for the independence.

The independence committee chairperson, Brigadier Letsogile Motsumi said Botswana is renowned for peace and freedom.

He said the celebrations will make the young generation appreciate where Botswana came from, how it started from nothing to where it is all through the spirit of Ipelegeng that Batswana has always embraced.

Brigadier Motsumi said it was disheartening that some people were not conversant with the national anthem and other national symbols.

He said the Maun Bots50 team will support the other events in the region such as Otjiserandu cultural event, Mbanderu cultural event and Youth boot camp by having a representative.ENDS
