11 Jul 2016

Bokamoso Private Hospital engaged on a 50-50-50-50 mission in line with the 50 years of independence celebrations by donating 50 pairs of school shoes to Tau Manthe Primary School pupils.

During the donation, chief executive officer of the Hospital Mr Andre Ackerman said having seen students walking barefoot in harsh conditions to school, they then embarked on a 50-50-50-50 task, donating pairs of school shoes to boys and the other 50 to girls of Tau Manthe.

He said in 2013 they headed the President’s call of adopt a school by adopting Tau Manthe Primary School which is also in their locality. Mr Ackerman said 50 Bokamoso employees were also expected to participate on a three kilometre walk barefoot to Tau Manthe Primary School even though less the number walked, as a way of experiencing what the pupils went through.

He said Tau Manthe as their adopted school will remain their focus, noting that caring for the children was a long term investment for the nation of Botswana. “Education is the future, education is a privilege,” he said.

He said Bokamoso will continue to be at the forefront, making sure Botswana`s Vision 2016 pillar of an educated and informed nation is actualised. Since adopting the school in 2013, he explained Bokamoso has helped in repainting the school, donating computers and a printer to the school and contributing in the prize giving ceremonies of the school among others.

For his part Member of Parliament for the area Mr Vincent Seretse, who also took part in the walk commended Bokamoso hospital saying their initiative was also in line with vision 2016 pillar of Compassionate, Just and Caring Nation. He said the adopt a school initiative is aimed at assisting public schools to strengthen and improve their programmes, hence improving their educational performance and giving the less privileged social dignity.

“The hospital has therefore turned to its partners in education being Tau Manthe Primary School by donating school shoes to the needy and deserving students,” said  Mr Seretse.

He said the students without shoes walk barefoot in the chilly winter conditions seeking basic human right of education hence Bokamoso has met their need.

When giving a word of appreciation on behalf of students, a standard seven student at Tau Manthe School, 13-year-old Khumiso Gareratane extended their sincere appreciation to the hospital for being so hearty to them. She said the hospital made a noteworthy and treasured change in their lives. ENDS
