SA national to serve 12 years

Kanye principal magistrate Ms Abigail Masau has sentenced Thuso Mokobelo of Mabule village in Barolong Farms, to 12 years imprisonment for rape and entering Botswana unlawfully.
Mokobelo was accused of three counts, first count of unlawfully entering in and out of Botswana at ungazetted point and for rape at Mabule on the 5th and 8th of March 2012.
Facts of the case are that Mokobelo entered Botswana unlawfully and then committed rape at Mabule before returning to South Africa also crossing at an ungazetted area.
In mitigation Mokobelo told the court that he is looking after his mother and livestock. He said he is also has a two-year-old baby in Mochudi to look after. Assistant superintendent Benjamin Modimoosi prosecuted the case.
In another case, Edwin Motlhanka of Gakhibana ward in Kanye appeared before court for bar breaking and theft this month.
He broke into Stick and Fingers Bar in Kanye and stole beer and cigarettes worth P1 055. Police investigations are still on. ENDS
