Realistic vision essential for progress
11 Jul 2016
Regional programme coordinator, from Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, Dr Ulrich Golaszinski has implored all those in leadership positions to create a compelling vision that is realistic, convincing and an attractive depiction of where one want to be in the future.
Speaking during the closing session of Youth Leadership Trainning Programme (YLTP)2016, over the weekend, he said a compelling vision is the one that people could see, feel, understand and embrace.
He said leaders should be proactive in solving problems and provide possible solutions to the existing problems.
Dr Golaszinski also asked said those in leadership to help themselves and others to do the right thing, by setting directions and priorities.
Yet while leaders set the direction, they should also use management skills to guide their people to the right destination in a smooth and efficient way.
To achieve that, he said leadership should combine analytical side of vision creation with passion of shared values, creating something really meaningful to the people being led.
For her part, YLTP 2016 patron, Dr Alice Mogwe said the workshop was meant to equip participants with possible required leadership skills for them to use in the future to better other people’s lives.
She said leaders should learn to clarify visions and follow their passions.
She aslo said they should be risk takers to overcome challenges that they might be facing in order to bring positive changes.ENDS
