Tshekedi applauds employees

11 Jul 2016

Minister of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism says it is the service of the public sector that calls on government employees to perform and not anything else hence he is grateful for the team that he has.

Speaking at his ministry’s award ceremony for employees that performed exceptionally well, Mr Tshekedi Khama said if it was not for the people that he works with, he would not be able to perform as minister. “And this is true all the way to the bottom. I know that we want certain things and most of the time it is not possible to get them because of the economy not performing well, but I want to assure you that we are following up on such issues,” he said.

He said despite the challenges that employees in the ministry continue to face, he is proud that the job continues to get done.

“We appreciate the challenges that you face every day, we are together with you in those challenges and the sad thing is that some of issues can easily be resolved, but some people are standing before progress,” he said.

Mr Khama said it is not everyone that would get awarded for performing well and that he likes team awards more than individual awards.

“Growing up I did not do well when it came to subjects such as Math and Science, but when it came to athletics I was pretty good,” he said, adding that people should focus on their strengths.

He encouraged employees to flourish where they can and not dwell on not doing well in some things.

“You may not be recognised in this ministry or today, but do not give up because you will be recognised later on,” he said.

Mr Khama said he was grateful for the support and knowledge imparted onto him by the people he works with.

“It is not like I know everything and my award is working with you and appreciate everyone I have had an interaction with in this ministry,” he said. ENDS
