Following a jam packed show that was hosted at Duma FM grounds in February, The Hamptons Jazz Festival is back again and this time around they are hosting a show that is aimed at appreciating the record number of attendees that were at the show.

Speaking in an interview, organiser of The Hamptons Jazz Festival, Debbie Smith said the after party will be on October 29 at Duma FM grounds.

“Initially the event was slated for May, but we had to postpone it and now we have also decided to make it into a proper event bearing in mind the number of people who want to attend from South Africa, Zimbabwe and all corners of Botswana,” she said, adding that the growth of the event has made them contemplate having a two-day event in a year.

She indicated that international artists billed for this event include the iconic Zonke, Mahotella Queens and Sipho ‘Hotstix’ Mabuse.

“As for our very own acts, people can look forward to seeing Banjo Mosele, Thabang, Lizibo, Nono Siile, Amantle Brown, Dj Laninah Benz,” said Debbie, also adding that MCs for the night include Brando, Resego and King Bee.

With regards to tickets for those that want to attend, Debbie said early bird tickets are P299, regular tickets P499 and P699 for couple tickets.

“People should note that this time around we have a limited number of tickets compared to the last show where we had a little over 10 000 people attending,” she said.

Debbie indicated that early bird tickets will be on sale on July 20 from Poise Masa Centre and Webtickets.

“E-wallet option is also available and lay-by will only be for regular tickets and couples tickets. Also, early bird tickets include a choice of a free beanie hat, mogagolwane or t-shirt whilst stock last,” she continued.

Debbie further said once again they have successfully sorted out requirements for a smooth festival and secured all permits such as bye-law permits, arts and culture permits, liquor license, visa and labour permits for international artists that required them.

She noted that Hamptons Jazz Festival aims to be representative of a historic moment in which Botswana is seen as the destination for jazz intellectuals.

“The event allows people to revel in cultural refinement whilst relaxing with a glass of wine or cold beverage and enjoying the music,” said Debbie.

Speaking further on the objectives and aims of the festival, Debbie said they want to generate approximately 1 000 direct temporary job opportunities for Batswana, create and nurture empowerment and business opportunities throughout Botswana.

“We want to promote a tourism initiative that will generate positive economic ripple effect for different economic sectors of Gaborone and also host a festival that will leave a legacy and have an impact on the lives of the community through direct and indirect benefits,” said Debbie.

She further said they aim to use the festival as a tool to promote social cohesion and nation building in Botswana (inter-generational, inter cultural and inter-racial) by bringing the young and old together for the common purpose of fun and musical entertainment. Ends
