The Ministry of Defence, Justice and Security has cautioned citizens against engaging in foreign military activities. This, according to a press release, is prohibited by law.
And any person convicted for this office, shall be liable to a term of imprisonment not exceeding 10 years.
“It has come to the attention of Botswana Government that contrary to this, there are Botswana citizens who have enlisted in the military service of other countries without such permission. This is unlawful and all those concerned are advised that they have contravened the law and are liable for prosecution for such offence,” says the release.
The ministry explains that for one to engage in foreign military activities, they must get authorization from the President. And such permission cannot be granted retrospectively. The same applies to any person who induces any other person whether citizen or not, to accept or agree to commission or engage in the military service of any country.
