Choir donates to Athlone patients

04 Jul 2016

Botswana Geoscience Institute’s (BGI) Lentswe Choir has donated snack hampers worth around P1 000 to the children’s ward at Athlone Hospital recently.

Speaking during the donation, BGI’s senior personal secretary to the chief executive officer, Ms Onalenna Itheetseng said their mandate as a choir was to assist people who need help the most, adding that it was for that reason that they came to donate fruits to the patients.

She said the donation was to also observe the Vision 2016 pillar of “a compassionate, just and caring nation” by showing they cared about patients and emptied their pockets to share what they had with them.

Ms Itheetseng said no matter how small the donation could be, to them it was huge and they were not ashamed to give it out as it came from loving hearts.

She quoted the book of Corinthians 13:4 which says “love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

“Because of this love, God shall touch and heal them as soon as we leave this place,” Ms Itheetseng said. In her welcome remarks, the hospital superintendent, Dr Boipelo Lecoge said patients’ recovery was not only based on medication, adding that a lot could contribute to their healing such as being shown love and care.

She said she was grateful for the donation, describing it as a package full of love to the patients, and that the institution showed they were living the nation’s vision of a just compassionate and caring nation.

Dr Lecoge applauded them for finding it fit to share the little they had with the patients regardless of the struggle with meager salaries.

For her part, acting nursing superintendent, Ms Nombulelo Thibatsela urged BGI to continue with the spirit of giving and to stretch their helping hands to those who need help and not only limiting themselves to their families. She said they shall be abundantly blessed as blessed was the hand that gives.ENDS
