Kgosi Puso preaches self reliance

Kgosi Puso Gaborone of Batlokwa, also the chairperson of Ntlo ya Dikgosi has urged Rakhuna residents to be self-reliant in order to limit dependency on government funds.
Speaking after a 10km BOT50 sponsored walk from Rakhuna to Pitsane-Photlhoko, Kgosi Puso said there was need for communities to work collectively with government to address certain insufficiencies.
He urged residents especially youth to follow in the footsteps of their parents to cultivate the spirit of self-reliance and show determination in driving the community’s needs to be a reality.
He said government was doing all in its power to assist where possible, adding that the effort is still inadequate and therefore called on individuals to contribute to make the country’s 50th independence celebration a success.
He further said community members should also consult with each other and share ideas that would assist them to reminisce on their efforts invested in the past to build a united nation.
He also encouraged them to uphold peace and tranquility that prevails in the country since 1966 and to continue building a democratic and peaceful nation that would be envied by other nations and beyond borders.
Meanwhile, Kgosi Puso pledged P1 000 to support the local organising committee.
Earlier in his welcome remarks, Kgosi Sebe Mmile, commended the participants for their determination and called for all community members to take part in all the arranged activities in their village to make independence celebration in their village notable.
In her remarks, local BOT50 committee treasurer, Boikhutso Lilongo said they had so far collected P4 175 for the sponsored walk.
She said the committee has come up with build up events that would assist them to raise more funds to contribute to the independence celebration.
Lilongo said they had events such as raffle, bicycle race, donkey race, elderly race and many more.
She said proceeds from such events would be used to electrify seven Village Development Committee (VDC) houses so as to rent them at a better price and also make them habitable for public servants who were faced with shortage of accommodation.
For her part, nominated councillor in Goodhope-Mabule Constituency, Rebaone Mosidila lauded the community members for their support in participating in the sponsored walk as a buildup event towards independence celebration.
She called for teamwork amongst community members to make the event a success and also to ensure proper coordination in all their activities. ENDS
