Orange foundation to award special needs students

03 Jul 2016

Orange Foundation will on Friday award top achieving students in the Special Needs Category at the Botswana Examination Council (BEC) Annual Excellence Awards.

A press release from Orange Foundation states that the Special Needs Category recognises students’ hard work and excellence in their final examinations, despite the situation they find themselves in.

The release says the award reinforces Orange Foundation’s strategy of supporting digital education for Batswana.

It also says the award promotes digital education for students living with disabilities by offering them digital tools such as laptops, JAWS software and tablets.

JAWS, it says, is a software that makes learning for the visually impaired easier as it converts written text into spoken words and reads out the info in the computer screen through speakers or headphones and with such advancements in technology there is no reason why visually impaired students can not  be as technologically advanced as their counterparts.

Meanwhile, the awards ceremony is organised by the BEC in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, to recognise high performing students in their PSLE, JCE and BGCSE examinations. ENDS
