Banjo Mosele and Jackson Kaujeua Jr were a marvel to watch during a live jazz concert at the Alliance Françoise recently.
The two legends made a collaboration with Motshe wa Badimo Ensemble, Mafitlhakgosi Traditional Group and Solly Sebotso with songs ranging from some of Banjo’s hits such as Sananapo and Ditshwene di nyadisa.
The group also introduced collaboration songs with the Namibian singer, Kaujeua, the son of the late Namibian legend, Jackson Kaujeua Sr.
In the interview, the concert organiser, Mosele, said the event was a trial and build-up to their anticipated show in Namibia on July 15.
“We have received an invitation from the Botswana High Commission in Windhoek to perform for BOT50 at the Warehouse Theatre as build up to Botswana’s 50th anniversary,” he said.
He said the show could not be complete without Botswana’s young and talented traditional dance group, Mafitlhakgosi.
“By introducing this group in the band, we anticipate inducing the traditional facet of our traditional dance culture, outfit into Jazz thus creating a classic taste for the jazz lovers. This group has grown as they also play jazz,” he said.
Indeed, Mafitlhakgosi proved themselves with their marvellous traditional dance songs and moves incorporated into jazz, with Motshe wa Badimo Ensemble also proving themselves with Kopano Mantswe, the energetic percussionist, on his toes. ENDS
