Reowned DJs take revellers down memory lane

GICC was the place to be on Saturday when legends, Vinny Da Vinci, Bob Mabena and Dj Christos, took music lovers down memory lane to the 70s and 80s.
Old memories were brought back as the two decades of music were brought to the dance floor and people could not contain themselves as they danced the night away.
With music lovers dressed in 70s and 80s regalia, it was a sight to behold as people of different age categories enjoyed music.
Mabena also known as The Jammer tore up his set much to the pleasure of those familiar with his playing sets from days of Bop TV.
Legendary house producer and one of South Africa’s longest spinning DJs also did his magic on the ones and twos. Dj Christos is a legend in his own right and people who know his music would attest to that.
He unraveled the magic of the 70s and 80s by bringing back simple and basic music to everyone’s ears.
In came Vinny Da Vinci he forced revellers to the dance floor.
Throughout his set, the dance floor was packed.
One could see why he held the reputation as one of South Africa’s leading house masters.
His friendship with DJ Christos saw them release three albums under the DJ’s @ Work collaboration to date, and his African-ism series under the House Afrika Records label (of which he is co-owner) has dominated the deep-house scene, pioneering a new wave of minimal, bass line-heavy, Afro-flavoured rhythms that have bewitched dance floors.
DJ Bax, Zo Harvey and GrooveCartel also added up more spice to the line-up.
German Dollar, half of Groove Cartel, sure did dress up for the night and he killed his set along with TCM, who is another half of GrooveCartel.
Marketing administrator of The Grand Palm hotel, Samantha Bogopa had indicated earlier in an interview that this time they would be going all the way back.
“This year we are catering for the seemingly forgotten people of the 70’s and 80’s,” she said, adding that it is a battle of the decades therefore the line-up of artists will cruise people back to those decades.
Most people in attendance did adhere to the dress code, which among others included punk, rock and heavy metal t-shirts.
The night was very memorable, but the only thing that seemed to not sit well with revellers was the lack of capacity from stalls set up to sell drinks to people.
It was too crowded and they seemed overwhelmed with the traffic that came through.
People even went for hours cueing to be served and even when they got to the front of the cue, it was a mess and things such as ice were not there and they even served hot drinks. ENDS
