Kasane Kazungula plan not finalised

28 Jun 2016

Consultancy for Kasane/Kazungula development plan has not been finalised despite the agreed April 3 deadline.

Briefing a full council session in Kasane on June 27, council chairman, Mr Mwanota Kachana attributed the delays to the contractor’s performance and delays in evaluation of the strategic environmental assessment (SEA).

“It is with great displeasure to inform you that the draft design report has not yet been completed mainly due to the aforementioned reasons,” he said.

On a positive note, Mr Kachana added that assessment of properties completed in April for both commercial and residential had attracted P55 million.

The report for funding of residential properties in Old Kazungula had been approved at over P 8 million.

“The other report for commercial properties worth around P46 million has been submitted to the Department of lands for appraisal and approval upon which funds will be requested,” he added.

A total of 300 plots have been identified to accommodate those who would be moved to give way to the development.

In other issues, the council chairman reported that the SHHA home improvement scheme is experiencing low uptake with only eight beneficiaries awaiting funding for the current financial year instead of the 17 expected.

Mr Kachana also expressed concern over squatter churches that were cropping up in areas marked for residential purposes between Kgaphamadi and Plateau. Ends
