Kebonang donates blankets

26 Jun 2016

Lobatse Member of Parliament Advocate Sadique Kebonang who is also the Assistant Minister of Investment Trade and Industry donated 400 blankets to Lobatse senior citizens on June 21 courtesy of  Oriental Plaza traders.

Lobatse town mayor, Ms Malebogo Kruger said the donation came after they met as Lobatse Town Council together with the MP and thought of what they could do for the elders this year.

She said it was thereafter that Mr Kebonang as the MP for Lobatse approached Oriental Plaza traders in Gaborone to give out the blankets.

She said all went successfully as Oriental Plaza called them to accept the request and gave them the donation of blankets worth approximately P40 000.

Ms Kruger further said the Ward Development Committee (WDC) chairpersons helped identify 32 elderly people from their respective wards to be given the blankets, including Lobatse Farms, adding that Lobatse Farms also falls under the constituency.

However, Ms Kruger emphasised that beneficiaries were identified without any party affiliations and that the donation was not coming as a favour to anyone. As to those elders who were not chosen to receive something, she said their turn would come, adding that as council they do this kind of gesture annually.

Meanwhile Ms Kruger said the donation was a gift from God and came at the right time when the country was celebrating its silver jubilee under the theme ‘United and Proud’.

She said bringing services to the people was their first priority as councillors and that what they did indicated that there was unity and solidarity in the council.

When appreciating the gifts, one of the elders from Thema/Motswedi ward Ms Bellina Hirschfield said she was thankful to the MP, adding that he was doing a great job taking care of the elders. She said as young as he was, the MP was thoughtful and deserved to be abundantly blessed.

In his closing remarks, Woodhall ward councillor Molaodi Mantle urged the residents and senior citizens to give their blessings to the MP as he had done a lot for the town.

He pleaded with the beneficiaries to accept the gift wholeheartedly no matter how small they may think it was. He also thanked the Social and community Development (S&CD) committee for being the eyes of the council. Ends
