Govt awaits drought report
23 Jun 2016
Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Mr Slumber Tsogwane says Rural Development Council (RDC) would soon release a report detailing the extent of drought in the country.
Speaking during a kgotla meeting at Mokoboxane village recently, Mr Tsogwane informed residents that the report would inform government on the next steps as regards drought in the country.
However, Mr Tsogwane said it was evident that the country was heading towards another drought spell.
Consequently, the minister appealed to his electorates to sell their livestock to avert losing them to drought.
Mr Tsogwane also opined that even with government subsidy on livestock feeds, farmers still risked losing some of their livestock to drought as feeding was an expensive exercise.
Mr Tsogwane expressed concern that uptake of cluster fencing under the ministry of agriculture was low.
He appealed to his electorates to embrace the initiative or even consider individual fencing where they would pay 50 per cent of the total cost.
Even under the group fencing, beneficiaries would pay 50 per cent of the total cost of the fence. ENDS
