23 Jun 2016

Former Zebras star Kabelo Kgosiang will be buried at his home village, Tlokweng tomorrow (June 25). Family spokesperson Setete Phuthego told BOPA that former Prisons and Zebras player was admitted at Gaborone Private Hospital for only five days and died on Saturday.

Botswana Prisons Service spokesperson senior superintendent Wamorena Ramolefe said Kgosiang’s death was a serious loss to their organisation.

He said he joined Prisons in August 1995, and rose to the rank of assistant principal officer, adding that during his stay at Prisons, Kgosiang did his job diligently more especially in sport area. Ramolefe said in 2014, he was awarded honour of Botswana Prisons Service Medal by President Lieutenant General Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama.  He said the honour was awarded to a deserving officer after working for continuous 18 years with good conduct.

Botswana Football Association (BFA) president Tebogo Sebego said Kgosiang was on the BFA structures and was meant to contribute to football not as a player but as an official.

Sebego further said his death meant the game had lost an experience as he was somebody who was  passionate and he knew what it meant to be a football player and challenges of the game.

“It is really painful, given that he was still young and there was no doubt that he was going to make a mark in the game as an official, and I wish a lot of people could learn from his life,” he said.

Furthermore, he said Kgosiang was a disciplined player, with humility and during his career more especially at the national team, he never gave technical team a problem.

Sebego said Kgosiang’s life was exemplary to a footballer adding for BFA his death was a serious loss. Born in September 19, 1973 he played for the national team between 1999 and 2004 and played as midfielder for Prisons XI. He is survived by his wife, Georgina. ENDS
