Miner sustains injuries in BCL accident
22 Jun 2016
A BCL Mine employee sustained injuries during a mine accident.
A press release from the BCL Mine states that the mine regrets the incident that took place on June 20, at 7:30 pm at one of its mines.
The BCL public relations manager, Mr James Molosankwe, says, the affected workman was taken to the mine hospital where he was receiving medical attention.
The BCL medical team had given assurance that he was out of danger and was responding well to treatment.
Mr Molosankwe says in the release that their preliminary assessment revealed that the incident involved a workman who was assisting his miner in-charge to wash-down after a blast during the re-entry process.
The release states that it was in this process that a rock rolled down from the blasted muck pile (blasted ground) and struck the employee in the body area and he sustained injuries.
He noted that investigations by the inspector of mines to establish the root cause of the accident shall commence in due cause because this was a reportable incident according to the Mines, Quarries, Works and Machinery Act Regulations.
And BCL Limited would carry out its own investigation in order to determine the root cause of the incident. ENDS
