22 Jun 2016

Kgosi Mmirwa Malema of Bobonong has described Babirwa as a tribe with rich history.

Speaking during a kgotla meeting to bid farewell to residents of Motlhabaneng on June 16, Kgosi Malema stated that the tribe understood its traditions.

Kgosi Malema stated that he would retire as the tribal leader on September 30 and his son Kgosi Letso Malema would take over the baton.

Kgosi Letso is currently the headman of record in Molalatau.

He told residents that recently he called other dikgosi to a meeting about the development as well as addressed Bobirwa Sub-district councillors who accepted his retirement wholeheartedly.

The tribal leader, who led the tribe for 44 years, told residents that he had desired to retire last year but due to some problems pertaining to who should take over his seat, he asked for extension to iron out the differences.

Kgosi Malema stated that he had already addressed kgotla meetings at Moletemane, Tsetsebye, Mathathane and Lentswe-le-Moriti informing them about his decision.

He thanked the tribe for cordial and harmonious working relations during his tenure.

Kgosi Bethuel Machete of Motlhabaneng showered Kgosi Malema with accolades, describing him as a hard worker who had never forsaken his tribe and that he served with respect and dignity.

Kgosi Machete said Kgosi Malema was faced with many challenges during his reign but managed to control and overcome them.

Though retiring, he appealed to him to open his doors to them when they seek assistance and guidance.

One resident, Mr Elias Modeme thanked Kgosi Malema for patience during his execution of duties and stated that the tribe would always remember him as a hard worker.

Mr Modeme further added that though they would miss him they were happy that his son would take over from him and continue to lead the tribe.

Another resident Mr Jack Parithi thanked Kgosi Malema for his diligent service. ENDS
