Majaga motivates schools
20 Jun 2016
The office of the member of Parliament for Nata/Gweta has embarked on a journey to find strategies aimed at motivating teachers, students and parents teachers association.
Speaking at a hand over ceremony of incentives for Sepako Primary School, its active PTA members and village development committee (VDC), the MP for the area, Mr Polson Majaga said in his past kgotla meeting, it was reported that there was an outcry that the schools were not performing well.
That persuaded him to come up with initiatives that could boost morals at the schools while at the same time motivating the students as well as their parents to see the need and importance of getting educated.
Mr Majaga added that during last year’s Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE), Manxotae and Sepako results were the lowest, with schools occupying position 44 and 45 respectively out of 45 primary schools for Tutume sub region inspectorate.
And that he said called for action to be taken to revive the spirit of hard work in schools in order to improve the positions and poor results.
He further noted that through Majaga Foundation, his office has come up with initiatives to help government in efforts to tackle poor results across all schools in the country in particular those that are doing badly.
Because these schools are mostly in Remote Area Dweller's villages, he decided to request all forms of assistance from school shoes, stationery and schools bags to give out to the students so that they can be motivated to want to attend all school days rather than miss other days as that could result in poor performance.
It is for that reason that at the ceremony the school was given P5 000 to cover whatever their need may be.
Some active PTA members were given blankets as motivation and the MP promised that others will be given something in future once incentives have been found.
Acting chief education officer for the region, Mr Otukile Chaba said parents should understand that they are the key players in the education system as they have to ensure their children attend school.
At the same time he said, they should find time to visit the school and meet teachers to get first hand information on the child performance instead of waiting for end of term report only.
Mr Chaba further highlighted that attending PTA meeting should not stop the parents from visiting school at any time they find because frequent visits will help them understand areas their children need to be assisted on hence teacher/parent partnership in class and outside class is important and necessary.
He therefore informed the gathering that a decision has been taken by their ministry to have results of every term presented at the end of each term to parents and village leadership as well as at the ministry for scrutiny and areas that need attention sorted out. ENDS
