Group gives elders a treat

14 Jun 2016

Phala e Senang Phalana (PESP) organisation recently treated Mogobane elders to lunch and entertainment as a token of appreciation.

The organisation’s director, Ms Tsholofelo Letshoo, said their vision was to keep the elders company at the same time tapping from the elder’s wisdom, learning more about culture and Tswana traditions.

Ms Letshoo said they had noticed that elders were the ones who stayed back at home and raised grandchildren hence the organisation’s intention to make them feel happy, appreciated and loved.

However, Ms Letshoo added that in celebrating the country’s 50 years of independence, the role of the elders in building the country should be appreciated.

For her part, Sefalana administration manager, Ms Mabel Basson urged the youth to play part in caring for the elders.

She said life begins at birth; mothers carrying their children and teaching them how to cross the road reminding them that time has come for the youth to hold on to their parent and assist them with patience.

Mogobane councillor, Mr Dilo Abram, said spending a day with elders is always a joyous moment.

“We are what we are today because of our elders, our country is where it is today because of our elders, Mogobane village is what it is because of our elders therefore they deserve to be celebrated”, he said.

Furthermore, he said it was a pity that today’s youth were easily influenced by modern times to an extent that they no longer treat the elders in a well-deserved manner. The councilor thus appreciated Phala E Senang Phalana in trying to address the situation.

Kgosi Nobi Moilwa of Mogobane said the efforts by Phala E Senang Phalana do not only serve Mogobane alone but Botswana as a whole.

Mr Nobi encouraged the elders to ask their children to help the organisation in order for it to progress.ENDS
