Permanent Secretary to the President (PSP), Mr Carter Morupisi, has rewarded Malaka Primary School pupils who did well in the 2015 PSLE examinations.
He contributed P5 000 to be used for students’ awards, while the PSLE outstanding performers were given P200 each.
Speaking during the award ceremony on Friday, Mr Morupisi commended the 17 students who did well in the 2015 PSLE examinations.
Mr Morupisi, who is also the patron of Malaka Primary School, raised concern over poor performance at Junior Certificate (JC) level.
He said students tended to perform poorly at JC level, therefore he asked parents to join hands with teachers to help students maintain good performance.
Mr Morupisi promised to continue supporting the school.
The Chinese Embassy also donated blankets to all the 62 standard one pupils and a tablet to the best student in the 2015 PSLE examination, Collen Bakang.
A representative from the Chinese Embassy, Mr Tang Shengping said the blankets would provide warmth to the children during this winter season.
He said China and Botswana enjoyed a profound and long term friendship, adding that the two countries had witnessed sustained, rapid and sound development as a result of that friendship. Mr Tang said the embassy would continue to help the needy.
“I believe that with our joint effort, the cordial relations of friendship and cooperation between China and Botswana will be lifted to a new height and bring more to the people of the two countries,” he said.
In addition, acting deputy permanent secretary in the Ministry of Education and Skills Development Mr Leonard Muthetho commended Malaka primary for the job well done.
He also thanked Mr Morupisi and the Chinese Embassy for the awards and donation as both contributed positively to performance improvement in the school.
Mr Muthetho said his ministry was conducting an assessment to find out why there was poor performance at JC level.
He urged students to work hard as their future was in their hands, adding there was no sweet without sweat.
Mr Muthetho further urged parents to continue playing a significant role in their children’s education, adding that the 91.2 per cent attained by the school in the 2015 PSLE was an indication that parents contributed positively to bring about good performance.
Ministry of Education and Skills Development encouraged teacher/parent relationship for the good of children.
He, however, urged them to invest in their children because they were the future leaders of this country. ENDS
