The Vice President, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi, has commended Sathya Sai Free Medical Clinic of Gaborone for providing free medical services.
Speaking during the clinic’s 10th anniversary celebration over the weekend, Mr Masisi said it was a blessing to have such a facility.
He said government alone could not achieve the national development goals on its own, adding that government needed the support and participation of the private sector and civil society.
Mr Masisi said with the support from such organisations, government was determined to provide quality health services.
The Sathya Sai Free Medical Clinic of Gaborone offers free medical services every Sunday, dental care on the second Sunday and vision care on the third and fourth Sundays of the month to needy patients.
The clinic is supported by 15 medical doctors, four pharmacists, three dentists, three opticians, a nurse and volunteers.
In medical services, the centre addressed general health issues as well as dermatological problems, respiratory illness, cardiovascular problems, metabolic diseases and women’s health issues.
Cilnic coordinator, Mr Murali Vaidyanathan, said an eye clinic at Sathya Sai was offered twice a month for examination and providing of spectacles, adding that the demand for an eye clinic was high.
He also said by the end of 2015, a total of 21 500 had visited the medical facility, while to date, 96 per cent of the prescribed medication had been dispensed.
Nonetheless, the Sathya Sai Baba Free Medical Clinic of Gaborone is one of the 126 centres established across the world under the Sathya Sai organisation.
Another free health facility in the country is in Francistown. ENDS
