Station commander welcomes Nata court

12 Jun 2016

Station commander for Gweta Police Station, Superintendent Nelson Museke, has commended government for its decision to have a magistrate court at Nata in Nata/Gweta constituency.

Speaking in an interview on Friday, Superintendent Museke said the development would elevate their service standards. He said the magistrate court, which opened its doors on June 9, was going to help improve the way they had been serving people particularly with challenges relating to transportation.

He said under normal circumstances depending on the number of cases they have they had to travel to Francistown to attend court three times a week and that badly affected them because with their stations faced with fleet challenges, stations were left without transport and those remaining in stations had challenges to attend to reports that they had to travel and attend to.

And at the same time because their policing area is wide and roads in bad state, it made them to receive negative feedback regarding how they are servicing people.

Superintendent Museke noted that in their being only 100 kilometers away from Nata, a vehicle could take officers to court and return to station and even if it had to wait for them it will not be like in the past having to travel 600 kilometers to and from Francistown.

He nonetheless noted that it will also serve them and the community better if one of the stations either Nata or Dukwi had reprimanding cell.

Furthermore, he noted that it is also going to help reduce number of accidents which may occur citing that at some point they lost to officers who perished in a fatal accident on their way to court in Francistown. ENDS
