North West District Council (NWDC) chairperson, Mr Reaboka Mbulawa has underscored the need for a development strategy for Maun.
Addressing the North West District Council session, Mr Mbulawa said the council needed to have a deliberate packaging of land investors to attain Maun face lifting.
“We need a pro-growth development strategy of Ngamiland including finding means for acquiring land for diploma and degree colleges for Maun as a town,” he said.
Mr Mbulawa encouraged the local authority to engage in land packaging means that would lure investors to Maun.
On other matters, Mr Mbulawa informed the NWDC that a plot had been secured for horse racing through the joint efforts of physical planning and Tawana Land Board near the University of Botswana Campus in Sexaxa.
Mr Mbulawa said there was a need for a mind-shift in serving customers, adding that customers seeking help in organisations should not be sent from pillar to post.
Commenting, Maun Sub Council chairperson and Nokaneng councillor, Mr Gaokgakala Letswee said the horse racing track was a welcome development.
Mr Letswee pointed out that horse racing was a tourism sport which could contribute to the development of the Ngamiland region in the same way as the Khawa Dune challenge.
Sehithwa Councilor, Mr Maitiro Segosebe also expressed gratitude about the development of the horse racing track.
However, Mr Segosebe queried the stature of the horse racing track, he wanted to know if it was of international standard.
Sedie councillor, Mr Kaukapita Kaukapita said Maun was not marketed effectively. He said there were many designated commercial plots in Sedie and Boseja which remained undeveloped.
