Police department donates to Ngware primary

12 Jun 2016

The Forensic Science Services department of the Botswana Police Service on Friday donated uniforms to 63 needy students of Ngware Primary School in the Letlhakeng Sub-district.

The donation came after the officers from the division identified the need of the school and contributed towards the procurement of the uniforms.

The school head, Mr Robert Tshambani, said unlike other schools from villages of their size, they did not have any challenges of pupils absconding from school.

He, however, said their major challenge was of students coming to school without proper uniform.

“Other basics such as pens and books are provided by the council, but in instances where the procurement process takes longer, most of these kids can even come to school without pens, and this indicates the seriousness of the problem,” he said.

He said therefore that the donation would come in handy in reducing the challenge.

Mr Tshambani also complained of parents that did not show any enthusiasm in the academic performance of their children to the extent that they did not even show up during open days to collect progress reports.

He however, hailed teachers for their commitment, saying that most of them knock off as late as 6pm to assist the students.

For her part, the director of the forensic science services, Dr Baboloki Magora said the gesture showed that the police officers were aware that their role in society went beyond their core mandate.

She urged the students to take their education seriously, as doing so would pave their way to a good living.

The chief education officer for Letlhakeng sub-region, Mr Magwaile Khao also informed them that education was the encore of every country’s economy

He called upon good Samaritans to assist the school in anyway they could.

Area councillor, Mr Ontathile Selatlho applauded the police unit for choosing to assist Ngware.

He said such a gesture of goodwill was welcome especially that government worked on a tight budget because of the economic recession. ENDS
