Sehithwa library fully utilised

09 Jun 2016

Youth in Sehithwa fully utilise the library services, according to senior library attendant at Sehithwa public library, Mr Gabobintshe Poitshego. He said since the introduction of computers in 2014, the number of library users increased.Speaking in an interview recently, Mr Poitshego said the youth had embraced technology in their daily lives.

“The youth of this community are taking advantage of the library resources like the free wi-fi as well as extending their knowledge through books and magazines.  They do staff like typing applications as well as social media. This helps put their mind at ease and takes them away from the streets as most of them are unemployed,” said Mr Poitshego.

He said, even though there was a well-established Kitsong Centre in the village, most of the residents utilised the library services since they were free.

Mr Poitshego said there was an after-school programme offered to primary school children; whereby pupils were taught computer basics. He hailed this attempt as fruitful as the students passed their time doing something productive.

Mr Poitshego urged parents to encourage their children to read and learn more about computers as all these were offered in the public library. The public library also made work easier for government officials since they did not have access to the Internet at their workplaces. One such employee is Ms Dorcas Mogotsinyane, an intern in the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture.

“Our ministry make use of the services offered in Sehithwa library more especially the internet. This technology makes our work easier in order to improve our service in the ministry. We usually do research, send reports and share information through emails,’’ she said. ENDS
