Legal Guard, Botswana Insurance Holdings Company (BIHL) short-term legal insurance division, is committed to offering Batswana reasonably priced legal services.

Speaking during a presentation to the Palapye Sub-council recently, Ms Kefilwe Tau, a representative from Legal Guard, said the mandate of the company, which was established in 2004, was to sell inexpensive and appropriate legal expense insurance products and services to Batswana.

Explaining the company's services to council members, Ms Tau said the legal policies included Mmueledi Guard, Mmueledi Premier, Elite Guard and Elite Premier.

 She said all their policies have a cash back benefit that allows customers to take back some of their premiums after three years of consecutive payments.

She highlighted that all the policies were affordable, explaining that the Mmueledi Guard offered legal cover of up to P80 000 on all civil and criminal matters at a premium of P89 per month while the Mmueledi Premier, which includes roadside assistance and medical cover of P7 500, cost P99 per month in premiums.

 She explained that the Elite Guard offers full cover on all civil, labour and criminal matters amounting to P130 000 at a fee of P170 per month.

 She said the Elite Premier, which offers roadside assistance and a legal cover of P150 000, cost a P180 per month.

For his part, councillor Lesego Setlhare of Lotsane ward, expressed concern about being given inexperienced lawyers during legal cases.

Councillor Omphemetse Kgotlaetsile added that clients should be given a chance to choose their own lawyers instead of Legal Guard choosing a legal representative for them. 

Responding to comments, Ms Tau said they only use experienced lawyers. 

She also emphasised that their lawyers were registered with the Botswana Law society. ENDS
