Limkokwing University of Creative Technology will on Thursday June 9  host the World Intellectual Property Day at the campus hall.

The event will start at 830 am. The event which is free to the public will be held under the theme Digital Creativity: Culture Re- imagined.

The discussion of the event will focus on the growth of the creative industries particularly in the fields of music, film, literary works, art and photography.

It will also review how advanced technologies such as social media, smartphones and development of Apps affect those fields. Additionally, industry players will reflect on the challenges and opportunities affecting their fields in the digital era of production, distribution and access at work.

The World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) found it fit to commemorate this day given the significant global contribution of intellectual property to the social and economic development of the world at large.

This hence gives the public an opportunity to celebrate the contribution of intellectual property as a catalyst for development and creation of wealth.

It would also give them an insight to link their everyday lives to existing creations and opportunities to develop more in the changing world environment.

The event will be attended by, among others, Companies and Intellectual Property Authority, Copyright Society of Botswana, Botswana Innovation Hub, Department of Research Science and Technology and the Botswana Institute for Technology Research and Innovation (BITRI). ENDS
