First aid training critical
07 Jun 2016
\National Food Technology Research Centre (NFTRC) official, Mr Juda Bogopa, says it is important for organisations to have first aid and fire hazard training
He was addressing a first aid workshop in Kanye recently. He said there were no policies in place in line with safety, so he came up with an initiative that would make the organisation’s premises safe.
Mr Bogopa said when clients visited offices, their safety was the organisation’s responsibility.
Mr Bogopa said when they contacted a first aid company; OPTIMEX to help them in getting their level three certificates, the company obliged by sending an experienced first aid instructor, Mr Daniel Habana.
For his part, Mr Habana said the response from the participants was good and that after completion of their level three certificates, they would teach other employees in the work place.
He said training was of vital importance to the organisation because they now had qualified staff that could give first aid assistance in case of an incident at the workplace.
Furthermore, Mr Habana was of the view that training would not only benefit NFTRC but the community at large.
With first aid level three, he said they focused on general anatomy, the respiratory system, diagnostic signs, the cardio vascular system, heart disease, chest injuries, shock and burns, among others.
One of the participants Ms Galase Ramolefhe said they were receptive to the training because the instructor was approachable and patient.
Another participant Ms Anna Nkepe said she learned a lot and was particularly intrigued by paralysis training.
She said the training was an eye opener and implored government departments to consider such training at their work places. ENDS
