Parents teachers partnership essential for education

02 Jun 2016

Parents have been implored to play a role in their children’s education. Giving a motivational speech during Maitlamo Primary School family fun day in Lobatse  recently, Mr Elias Rantleru, a teacher at Crescent English Medium School, said success in education was more like a three legged pot that needed concerted efforts from all stakeholders including the child, the parent and the teachers for better academic performance.

Mr Rantleru said the tripartite relationship would mould the children to become responsible citizens. He said an educated and informed nation would allow citizens to come up with brilliant ideas that could be turned into opportunities, ultimately improving the country’s economy.

He urged parents to instill the spirit of Botho and encourage their children to focus on their studies for them to realise their dreams in life.

He said government was working hard to promote education standards and implored the students to take advantage of that and make education their priority and desist from undesirable behaviour that could affect their studies.

Furthermore, he lauded teachers for their hard work of delivering to the best of their abilities despite the challenges they encounter in their teaching career. Earlier in her welcome remarks, school head, Ms Kenole Kgosikwena decried lack of cooperation between parents and teachers.

She said parents were reluctant to meet the teachers half way to ensure that they perform their duties diligently.

Ms Kgosikwena said lack of cooperation among all players would result in poor academic performance. She explained that the family fun day was meant to revive the spirit of stakeholders involvement in the day-to-day school activities.

In his closing remarks, Parents and Teacher’s Association chairperson, Mr Batsile Kgositlou implored all stakeholders to play their part for the sake of producing a competent workforce in the future. He pleaded with the business community to adopt Maitlamo in order to assist the school acquire some resourced that they need to facilitate learning. Ends
