Minister of Education and Skills Development says the outgoing Human Resource Development Council (HRDC) chhief executive officer, Dr Patrick Molutsi, is an embodiment of knowledge yet to be tapped.
Speaking at Dr Molutsi’s farewell dinner in Gaborone on May 30, Dr Unity Dow said though Dr Molutsi was leaving the HRDC on retirement, government would never cease to engage him in other national educational tasks because of his competency.
He said the fact that Dr Molutsi left behind tangible footprints at HRDC was a positive sign that the astute man was not only academically endowed but understood his national educational assignment, which he carried with pride and unparalleled prowess.
She said Dr Molutsi should continue with research, noting that apart from that she does not foresee him resting as many institutions are going to seek his expertise on various fields.
Meanwhile, Mr Abel Modungwa, chief executive officer of Botswana Qualification Authority (BQA) said the retiree had proved to be a useful resource personnel on various educational issues and was able to convince government on how to set standards of education.
Mr Modungwa said Dr Molutsi had vision and commitment on whatever he did.
Other speakers, who included Mr Odirile Gabasiane, managing director at BA ISAGO University and HRDC board chairperson Mr Batho Molomo described Dr Molutsi as a very humble and industrious person, who had proved to be a hard nut to crack even while working abroad.
For his part, Dr Molutsi said he was humbled to hear people speaking good of him, something which he said was gratifying.
“Why speak well of a man in his obituary when he cannot hear you, yet you had opportunity do it while he was alive”, he said.
He thanked government for having given him the opportunity to shape, drive and set standards of the education sector. He, however, noted that though some people were pessimistic of what HRDC was, he achieved his assignment through team spirit as well as the support from government. Ends
