Diamond Trading Company Botswana has refurbished and handed over a fully operational kitchen with trained employees to D’kar primary school as part of its adopt a school initiative, which they began by donating full school uniform and winter uniform to all the students in the school.

Diamond Trading Company Botswana Corporate communications and public affairs officer, Mr Kago Mmopi said the kitchen will serve the whole school  both the boarding and day students with some meals the first one being at 7am before they go to classes, he said they have recognised that some students come to school with empty stomachs which make them fail to listen in the classroom.

He said the other meal will follow at 10am for students to regain energy and be able to listen attentively in class. He said they were concerned by students who come to school with empty stomach because they end up bunking lessons and end up dropping from  school.

He said this will help students to actively participate in class and develop interest for school and hopefully the school results will improve as the school have not been performing well academically.

Mr Mmopi said with this kitchen they have created employment for three cooks who will be employed in the kitchen from the community of D’kar who will be provided with training to gain some skills and they will be on for a year thereafter the other group will be brought in and also be provided with training.

Speaking on behalf of the school, Ms Nametshego Bogosing said since the DTCB adopted their school they have received good attendance from the students and hope to see little or no school drop outs at the school as the students have a good learning environment.

The chairperson of D’kar PTA Ms Sarah Jane said the project will positively benefit both the parents and students and they will jointly as the community leadership and the school take good care of the project so that it has a longer life span and continue benefiting the school. Ends
