Five people perished in an accident that occurred on Saturday near Pilane Land Fill along the A1 road.

Speaking in an interview , Senior Supt Samuel Thobogang said the accident involved a Land Rover discovery and a Toyota land cruiser.

He said initial investigations have revealed that the Land Rover discovery which was coming from the North lost control and swerved to the side of the incoming traffic from the South colliding with the Land Cruiser.
Senior Supt Thobogang said a total of eight passengers were travelling in the two vehicles and five of them lost their lives.

He said the Land Rover carried two people, the driver and passenger who lost their lives while the Land Cruiser was carrying six people and three of them lost their lives while one passenger has been hospitalised with serious injuries.

He further said two of the passengers who were travelling in the Land Cruiser were treated and discharged with minor injuries.
Senior Supt Thobogang said they suspect that the driver coming from the North could have been driving at a high speed especially looking at the impact it left on both vehicles.

He advised excessive speed and alcohol consumption especially during entertainment occasions where they would be expected to drive afterwards. Ends
