Safeguard reputation of Botswana diamonds- Motlhabani

30 May 2016

Orapa Letlhakane and Damtshaa Mines (OLDM) assistant general manager, Mr Bakani Motlhabani says every Motswana is responsible for safeguarding the reputation of Botswana diamonds and showcasing the pivotal role they play in Botswana’s success story.

Mr Motlhabani was speaking during the BOT50 roving torch ceremony on May 28.

He said such demonstration of national pride creates bonds of friendship with other fellow global citizens who then become our diamond ambassadors and rightfully promote the reputation of our diamonds and our country.
Diamonds have played significant role in turning Botswana from one of the poorest and least developed countries in Africa before independence to one with a stable economy and a good track record of socio-economic development.

Kgosi Christinah Moloi of Orapa urged Batswana to continue with the spirit of self reliance and volunteering to help develop their country.
She said these principles will continue to lead the nation to greater heights and that if Batswana continue to embrace and uphold them, the country will achieve its aspiration of prosperity for all.

Kgosi Moloi cited an example of when Batswana came together to build the University of Botswana (UB) an institution that has produced quality leaders in Botswana. Ms Moloi also pleaded with the attendants to preserve their culture as it is the only tool that will differentiate them from other nations.

Another speaker at the event, youth representative, Mr Reuben Tshimologo said the symbol of fire is meant to light up the nation and motivate people while living the 2016 pillars. Ends
